Jim Bartel

Research Botanist at San Diego Botanic Garden

Jim Bartel is a Research Botanist at the San Diego Botanic Garden, a position held since June 2014, focusing on the phylogenetics, phylogeography, and taxonomy of western cypress (Hesperocyparis) and the taxonomy of the succulent genus Dudleya. Prior to this role, Jim Bartel served as a Field Office Supervisor with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service from 2001 to 2014. Jim Bartel obtained a Master of Arts in Botany/Plant Biology from California State University, Fresno, between 1972 and 1980.
