Zhengbing Bian has worked in the field of machine learning since 2008. Zhengbing'sfirst role was as a Senior Algorithm Researcher at D-Wave Systems Inc., where they were involved in machine learning (deep learning) research projects such as 2D human pose classification applied to hospital patient falling detection, 3D human pose generation, object detection using video frames from surveillance cameras, and cervical cancer detection. Zhengbing also helped win the Cataracts Computer Vision Challenge (2017). Zhengbing then served as an Applications Scientist at D-Wave Systems Inc., where they designed and implemented algorithms using quantum annealing to discrete optimization problems, such as LDPC, SAT, MaxSAT, fault diagnosis, and factoring. Zhengbing also implemented a structure prediction algorithm for multi-labelling using pairwaire interactions, and benchmarked quantum hardware against classical solvers. Prior to this, Zhengbing Bian worked as a Research Assistant at Simon Fraser University and the University of British Columbia, where they developed a three-dimensional Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) algorithm for wood drying and turbulent airflow models. Zhengbing also worked as a Software Engineer at the National Engineering Research Center for Multimedia Software at Wuhan University in China. Zhengbing Bian currently works as a Machine Learning Engineer at Sanctuary AI.
Zhengbing Bian obtained their B.Eng. in Power Engineering from Huazhong University of Science and Technology between 1992 and 1996. Zhengbing then went on to pursue a M.A.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering at The University of British Columbia from 1998 to 2001. Following that, they earned a M.Sc. in Computer Science from Simon Fraser University between 2001 and 2003. Finally, they completed their Ph.D. in Computer Science from Simon Fraser University from 2003 to 2008.
