Jean Lucas was named chief nursing officer of Sarasota Memorial Hospital – Sarasota Campus in September 2022, overseeing the hospital’s patient care units and departments. Previously, Jean served as chief nursing officer of Sarasota Memorial Hospital – Venice. Before that, she served as the associate chief nursing officer at the Sarasota Memorial Hospital - Sarasota Campus, overseeing the development of many programs to enhance patient care and quality. She also has played a key role in nursing recruitment, training and research initiatives. Prior to joining SMH in 2007, Jean was a member of the leadership team that opened the Lakewood Ranch Medical Center. Before that, she served in clinical and leadership roles at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Md. Jean earned her PhD in Nursing from the University of South Florida, and an MBA, Master's in Nursing and Nurse Practitioner degrees from Johns Hopkins University. She is currently president-elect of the Florida Organization of Nurse Executives Foundation and a fellow of the American Academy of Nursing.
