Joseph Lumpkin

Joseph Lumpkin began their career in 1972 as a Police Officer for the City of Athens Police Department. Joseph worked their way up through various roles including Police Officer, Plainclothes Police Officer, Police Sergeant, Police Detective, Police Lieutenant, Police Captain, and Police Major. In 1992, they became the Chief of Police for the Toccoa Ga. Police Department, followed by a position as Chief of Police for the Albany Ga. Police Department in 1994. From 1997 to 2014, they served as the Chief of Police for the Athens-Clarke County Police Department in Georgia. Joseph then went on to become the Chief of Police for the Savannah Chatham Metro Police in 2014.

Joseph Lumpkin attended the following educational institutions:

- University of Virginia in 2003 for the F.B.I. National Academy.

- Columbus State University from 2000 to 2002, where they obtained a Masters of Public Administration in Public Administration.

- Brenau University from 1980 to 1982, studying Criminal Justice.

- University of Louisville in 1977 for the Adminstrative Officer's Course.

- The University of Georgia from 1966 to 1970, with no specified field of study.

In addition to their formal education, Joseph Lumpkin obtained various certifications, including an Associate Instructor certification from Georgia POST, an Executive Certificate from Georgia POST, a Georgia Basic Police Certification, an Instructor certification from the International Association of Chiefs of Police, a Police Management certification from Georgia POST, and multiple Promotional Assessor certifications from organizations such as the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police, the Institute of Government, and the Georgia Municipal Association of Cities. Joseph also obtained a Training Instructor certification from the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council.
