Sanika Khare has a diverse background in biological research and education. Sanika currently works as an Application Scientist at Scale Biosciences since April 2023. From November 2020 to April 2023, they served as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies, UC San Diego.
Sanika completed their doctoral studies at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine from August 2014 to September 2020, where they discovered and validated clinically relevant metabolic tumor suppressors in renal cell carcinoma using various techniques. During their time there, they mentored two graduate students and published four papers, including two as the first author.
In addition to their doctoral research, Sanika also worked as a Journal Club Leader at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine - Biomedical Summer Research Academy from May 2015 to August 2019. Sanika led discussions on peer-reviewed publications in cancer for high school students, teaching critical thinking and presentation skills.
Sanika gained research experience as a Graduate Research Assistant at Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania from June 2013 to May 2014. Sanika also served as a Graduate Teaching Assistant for the course "Engineering Biotechnology" at the University of Pennsylvania from August 2013 to December 2013, assisting Dr. Scott L. Diamond.
Earlier in their career, Sanika worked as a Graduate Student Researcher at The Wistar Institute from January 2013 to April 2013. Sanika started their research journey as an Undergraduate Research Fellow at Grant Medical College & Sir JJ Group Of Hospitals in Mumbai from June 2011 to May 2012.
Sanika's early experience includes a brief training role as a Trainee at Reliance Life Sciences in July 2011.
Sanika Khare began their education in 2008 at Thadomal Shahani Engineering College, Mumbai University, where they obtained a Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) degree in Biotechnology. From 2012 to 2014, they attended the University of Pennsylvania, earning a Master of Biotechnology (MB) degree with a focus on Biotechnology. Sanika continued their studies at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine from 2014 to 2020, where they completed a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) program in Cell/Cellular and Molecular Biology.
