Leslie Cortes

Leslie Cortes has a diverse work experience in the field of biology. Currently, they hold the position of Senior Director of Discovery Biology at Scholar Rock since January 2023. Prior to this, Leslie worked as the Director of Discovery Biology at Scholar Rock from October 2021 to December 2022 and as the Associate Director of Discovery Biology from February 2021 to October 2021. They started their journey at Scholar Rock as a Senior Scientist II in the Discovery Biology department from October 2018 to February 2021.

Before joining Scholar Rock, Leslie worked at Sanofi Genzyme as a Senior Scientist from April 2014 to September 2018.

Leslie's early career includes a role as a Post-Doctoral Fellow at New England Biolabs from July 2010 to April 2014. They were involved in developing novel methodologies, identifying specific proteins, and examining mechanism related to protozoan parasites.

Prior to their post-doctoral work, Leslie was a Post-Doctoral Fellow and Graduate Fellow at The University of Chicago from September 1999 to June 2010. Their research primarily focused on chick hindbrain and mouse neocortical development. They also mentored graduate and undergraduate students during their tenure at the university.

Leslie Cortes obtained a B.S. in Biology from Duke University between 1995 and 1999. Following this, Leslie pursued further education and completed a Ph.D. in Developmental Biology at the University of Chicago from 1999 to 2006.
