Elena Smekalova

Elena Smekalova currently serves as Associate Director of Discovery Biology at Scribe Therapeutics, beginning in April 2024. Previously, Elena held multiple roles at Beam Therapeutics from October 2018 to November 2023, including Senior Scientist II and Team Lead, where notable achievements included leading the Hepatitis B program and developing innovative CRISPR base editing strategies. Prior experiences include postdoctoral positions at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, focusing on RNAi and CRISPR/Cas9 research, and at the Stowers Institute for Medical Research, studying telomerase function. Elena's academic background includes a PhD in Molecular Biology and a Master's Degree in Chemistry, both from Lomonosov Moscow State University.
