John Lorenz has a diverse work experience in the maritime industry. John started their career as a Deck Cadet at Alaska Tanker Company, where they gained experience in tanker operations and navigational watch standing. John then served as a Cadet Chief Mate at Massachusetts Maritime Academy, where they supervised maintenance assignments and watch standing duties while enforcing safety protocols. As a Third Officer at Maersk Line, Limited, they had responsibilities for firefighting, lifesaving equipment, and cargo operations in the Middle East and Far Eastern regions. At Crowley, they further developed their leadership skills as a Third Officer on a petroleum product tanker, focusing on onboard safety training and creating a safety culture. Currently, they are working at Seabulk as a Chief Mate onboard the Jones Act Tanker "Texas," where they serve as second-in-command, overseeing petroleum product transfers and ensuring vessel safety. Throughout their career, John Lorenz has demonstrated a strong commitment to safety and proficiency in maritime operations.

John Lorenz attended the Massachusetts Maritime Academy from 2015 to 2019, where they obtained a degree in Marine Transportation with a field of study in USCG 3rd Mate Unlimited Tonnage. John has also obtained various certifications from the U.S. Coast Guard, including Third Mate Unlimited in June 2019, Tankerman P.I.C. Dangerous Liquid Cargoes in June 2019, Tankerman Assistant- Liquified Petroleum/Natural Gases in September 2020, Second Mate Unlimited in December 2020, 1600 ton Master Oceans in February 2023, and Chief Mate Unlimited in March 2023.
