Lucy Balzer has a diverse work experience history. Lucy started as a Trainee Teacher of Science at BFET SCITT in September 2016 and ended their tenure in July 2017. From September 2016 to May 2019, they worked as a Teacher of Science (Physics Specialist) at Oasis Academy Oldham with Researchers in Schools. Lucy then joined the Institute of Physics in July 2019 as an IOP Coach (Gender Balance) and held the position until August 2021. From September 2021 to August 2022, they served as an Inclusion in Physics Consultant at The Association for Science Education. Currently, Lucy is working as a Data Engineer at SeeChange Technologies, starting in July 2022. Prior to their teaching roles, they worked at the University of Leicester as a Catalogue Scientist from January 2011 to October 2012, where they conducted scientific tests and compared data products. Additionally, Lucy worked as a Post-Doctoral Research Assistant at the University of Amsterdam's Astronomical Institute Anton Pannekoek from November 2012 to October 2015, where they analyzed time series from astrophysical objects and developed data mining techniques. Throughout their career, Lucy has shown expertise in science education, coaching, research, and data engineering.
Lucy Balzer obtained a MPhys degree in Physics with Astrophysics from the University of Leeds, where they studied from 2003 to 2007. Following this, they pursued a PhD in X-ray Astrophysics at the University of Leicester, completing their studies from 2007 to 2011.
