Nicolas Höning has a diverse work experience spanning multiple industries and roles. In 2000, they started their career as a Software Developer at RoeperWeise Systems where they worked on accounting software development. Nicolas then pursued their research interests at Universität Osnabrück as a Research Assistant from 2006 to 2008.
In 2009, Höning joined EyeQuant as a Senior Web Developer, focusing on instant attention-analysis of page designs using visual cortex models. Nicolas transitioned to Centrum Wiskunde & Informatica as a Ph.D. Researcher, conducting energy market modeling and research for future developments like smart grids.
Höning continued their journey in the energy sector by becoming a Senior Software Engineer at Senfal Energie Nederland (now Vattenfall) in 2017, where they automated the monetization of energy flexibility through backend development and data analysis.
In 2014, Höning joined Softwear BV as a Lead Developer, specializing in B2B automation for the fashion supply chain. Nicolas was responsible for programming, infrastructure development, and agile planning of development and releases.
As a Back End Developer at DigiB from 2019 to 2020, Höning contributed to the development of a recommendation engine based on past sales records, using a micro-service architecture.
Höning's entrepreneurial spirit led him to become a Founder Fellow at Primary Venture Partners in 2022, a program for newly launched startups focusing on open source. Nicolas also briefly worked as a Product Owner at the City of Amsterdam in the same year.
Their most recent endeavor is co-founding SEITA in 2018, a software startup specializing in intelligent and open-source energy management systems. In this role, Höning is involved in programming, software architecture, lead responsibilities, and business development.

Nicolas Höning's education history begins with a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in business informatics from Leibniz Akademie Hannover, which they obtained from 2000 to 2003. Nicolas then pursued a Bachelor of Science degree in Cognitive Sciences from Universität Osnabrück, completing it from 2004 to 2007. Following this, they attended Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU Amsterdam) from 2007 to 2009, where they obtained a Master of Science degree in Artificial Intelligence. Finally, they pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Computer Science from Delft University of Technology, which they successfully completed from 2009 to 2016. It is worth noting that in 2017, they also obtained the Professional Scrum Master I certification from Scrum.org.
