OUR PRINCIPAL ROLE

We are seeking a Principal to be responsible for the following:

  • Engagement managers responsible for leading client relationships, either in partnership with the Firm’s Managing Directors or as the Lead Consultant.
  • Develop and oversee client engagement strategy.
  • Act as trusted advisor to corporate boards, management teams, and Compensation and Human Capital Committees on compensation and talent issues and strategies including peer group development, benchmarking, compensation program design, goal-setting, pay for performance; support boards, management and the committee on issues through transactions, IPOs, executive transitions, and non-standard situations.
  • Lead and oversee the preparation of materials, with ultimate responsibility for overall quality of client deliverables. Attend Compensation Committee meetings and present findings and
  • Act as key client relationship contact; holds responsibility to nurture and build strong client relationships.
  • Train, manage, and mentor associates, senior associates, consultants, and senior consultants staffed on client teams; provides firm-level feedback and guidance on development to internal HR/Talent team.
  • Role, contribution and leadership on internal initiatives is vital to the success of the internal programming.
  • Key participant in firm marketing initiatives, including thought leadership, market research, and leadership/presentation at professional conferences and panels.
  • As member of the firm’s Senior Leadership Group, activates and influences change around broader firm initiatives, sponsor internal projects, and support broader firm strategic planning.
  • Leverage industry connections and marketing profile to identify, pursue and win new business.
  • Will supervise 3 reports.
  • Travel required, visit client sites for Compensation Committee meetings, marketing events and conferences, and internal firm meetings. Approximately 20-30 trips in the Continental US annually.
  • Will work in Los Angeles, CA. Remote work and telecommuting allowed.

WHO YOU ARE

We are seeking candidates with the following attributes. Must have a Bachelor's degree in Economics, Accounting, Finance, or significant coursework with economics, financial modeling and data modeling plus five (5) years of experience in job offered, Senior Consultant, Director, Sr. Director or VP of Compensation and Benefits/ Executive Compensation or related.

Must have experience with:

(1) Economic analysis when determining pay for performance, management and labor practices as well as specific industry trends in executive compensation industry as well as industry analysis specific to the client engagement to include Tech/Pre-IPO and Financial Services

(2) Assessing the effect of changing regulations and the effect of taxation

(3) Analyzing trends in annual and long-term incentive program design, including budgeting, selection of performance metrics, target setting, the role of discretion, vehicle mix, and the role of equity in talent retention

(4) Analyzing trends in pay philosophy, including pay prominence, strategic valuation of pay, talent retention methods, framing the compensation discussion and analysis (CD&A) portion of the proxy statement, and non-direct compensation matters such as SERPs and employee benefits

(5) Effectively manages and influences complex client relationships with multiple stakeholders at Management and Board level with both publicly and privately held Fortune 100 companies

(6) Ability to effectively communicate, market, and leverage existing network to solidify and expand client roster

(7) Fully versed in compensation strategies and topics including but not limited to peer group development, benchmarking, compensation program design, goal-setting, pay for performance, and corporate governance

(8) Excellent business acumen that considers breadth of variables, asks thoughtful questions, brings business and strategic thinking relevant and specific to each client’s industry and history

(9) Proven leadership skills/presence; anticipates, initiates, and influences both internally and externally; effective presence to advise, guide, lead, and challenge

(10) People management and development; train, manage, and mentor junior staff.

This is a paid, full-time opportunity available in our Los Angeles office. Salary compensation range is $200,000 to $250,000 subject to experience.  We are unable to provide visa sponsorship at this time.
