Ryan Houlette has a diverse work experience in various roles and companies. Ryan started their career as a Web Programmer at The Autochannel from 1996 to 1998. Ryan then worked as a Lead AI Software Engineer and Technical Project Manager at Stottler Henke Associates from 1998 to 2008. During this time, they were responsible for all phases of software development, team management, and business development.
In 2005, Ryan worked as a Section Editor at Charles River Media, where they edited the "Architecture" section for AI Game Programming Wisdom volumes 3 and 4.
From 2008 to 2012, Ryan joined Vlingo as a Development Lead, Java Mobile Clients, Manager of Service Engineering & Architecture, and Service Architect. Ryan played a crucial role in developing Vlingo's mobile applications, spearheading system architecture, and scaling the service platform. Vlingo was later acquired by Nuance Communications in June 2012.
At Nuance Communications, Ryan served as a Senior Principal Software Architect from June 2012 to October 2012. Ryan oversaw system architecture for a speech recognition system, guided technology integration, and resolved production service issues.
In 2012, Ryan also worked as a Software-Engineer-at-Large at Seventy-Six Consulting for a brief period of time.
Lastly, Ryan co-founded Sense in 2013, where they currently hold the role of VP Engineering.
Ryan Houlette completed their B.A. in Computer Science at DePauw University from 1992 to 1996. Ryan then pursued further education at Stanford University, where they obtained an MS degree in Computer Science with a specialization in Artificial Intelligence from 1996 to 1998.
