Jinwoo Kim

Jinwoo Kim has a diverse range of work experience in the field of computational biology and bioinformatics. Jinwoo is currently working as a Senior Scientist at Sensorium Therapeutics, where they utilize chemoinformatics and bioinformatics to develop drug candidates for psychiatric and neurological disorders. Jinwoo applies machine learning techniques to mine biological datasets and generate hypotheses for testing in the lab.

Prior to this, Jinwoo worked at LifeMine Therapeutics as a Computational Biologist II. Here, they developed drug discovery algorithms and trained machine learning classifiers to automate the target evaluation process. Jinwoo'swork significantly improved the identification of promising drug candidates and led to the discovery of novel biosynthetic pathways.

In their role as a Bioinformatics Scientist at Solarea Bio, Jinwoo designed and maintained bioinformatics pipelines for processing sequencing data from genomes and shotgun metagenomes. Jinwoo performed statistical analyses of microbiome data and contributed to the interpretation of results and identification of potential biomarkers for disease diagnosis and treatment.

As a Postdoctoral Scholar at the University of California, San Diego, Jinwoo analyzed skin microbiomes and deep sea sediment microbiomes using metagenome and metatranscriptome approaches. Jinwoo also investigated the regulation of energy conservation metabolism in Clostridium ljungdahlii during syngas fermentation using various sequencing techniques.

During their time as a Visiting PhD Student at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, Jinwoo focused on elucidating the transcriptional and translational regulation of secondary metabolism in Streptomyces. Jinwoo also performed comparative genomic analysis of the Streptomyces genus.

Jinwoo began their career as a Graduate Research Assistant at Seoul National University, where they identified the transcriptional regulatory networks of secondary metabolism in Streptomyces using ChIP-seq and performed metabolic engineering of secondary metabolism. Jinwoo also served as a lab manager and led a cell factory team.
