Josef Vargas has extensive experience in the field of enterprise architecture. Josef began their career at Varian Medical Systems as a Test Engineer and later worked at Imperial Irrigation District as a Programmer Analyst, where they played a key role in establishing an Enterprise Architecture practice.
Josef then joined ICW Group, first as a Senior Software Engineer and later as an Application Architect. In these roles, they oversaw the Enterprise Architecture practice, provided architectural guidance to solution delivery teams, and developed current and future state architecture models and strategic roadmaps.
At Nationwide Insurance, Josef served as a Consultant in IT Architecture, where they managed the information systems portfolio and facilitated the alignment between business strategy and technology. Josef also established the architecture practice for Nationwide's pet insurance division and managed a team of architects across various domains.
Returning to ICW Group, Josef took on the role of Director in both IT Architecture and Enterprise Architecture & Planning. In these positions, they re-chartered the company's architecture programs, defined the governance processes and content repositories, and managed teams of enterprise, solution, and domain architects.
Most recently, Josef joined First American as a Principal Business Architect. There, they implemented the company's first EA management platform, developed a Business Architect job family, and managed a team of business architects supporting strategic planning and key initiatives.
Currently, Josef is the VP of Enterprise Architecture at Serta Simmons Bedding, LLC.
Josef Vargas holds a Master's degree in Software Engineering from California State University, Fullerton (2007-2010) and a Bachelor's degree in Electronics Engineering Technology from DeVry University (1998-2001). In addition to their formal education, they have also obtained certifications such as TOGAF 9 Certified from The Open Group (2014) and Certified Information Technology Architect Foundation Certification from Iasa Global (2013).
