Nancie R.

Nancie R. has extensive work experience in the field of conservation. Starting in 1988, they worked as an intern at the Conservation Analytical Laboratory, Smithsonian Institution, where they assisted with various projects in organic chemistry, paintings conservation, and paper conservation. Nancie also participated in courses related to furniture conservation and the identification of natural and early synthetic dyes.

In 1991, Nancie interned at the J. Paul Getty Museum, where they gained further experience in conservation. Nancie then moved on to the National Gallery of Art in 1993, working as a contract conservator in the Picture Frame Conservation Department. Their responsibilities included inventorying and undertaking a condition survey of the Kress Collection of Italian Renaissance Picture frames, as well as conserving and restoring picture frames for use on paintings and relief sculptures.

Nancie joined the Cleveland Museum of Art in 1996 as a Mellon Fellow in Objects Conservation, and during their time there, they made significant contributions to the field. Nancie then transitioned to the Shelburne Museum in 1998, starting as an Associate Objects Conservator before being promoted to the role of Objects Conservator. As the Director of Conservation since 2022, they lead the conservation team, ensuring the preservation and restoration of the museum's collection.

Nancie R.'s education history began in 1982 when they obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Chemistry from Middlebury College. Nancie pursued their interest in the arts and attended the Corcoran School of the Arts and Design at The George Washington University from 1986 to 1989, where they focused on drawing, painting, and sculpture. In 1989, Nancie R. enrolled at the University of Delaware and completed their Master of Science degree in Art Conservation in 1992. In the summer of 1996, they attended the Attingham Summer School, where they furthered their knowledge in decorative arts.
