Scott Hammond

Deputy CEO and Operations Director at Shetland Space Centre

Scott Hammond has a diverse work experience spanning over several decades. Scott started their career as a Graduate Surveyor at Jones Laing Wooten in 1985. Scott then joined the Royal Air Force in 1986 and served as a Fast Jet Aircrew for 11 years, during which they also worked as a Flight and Weapons Instructor and served as an Exchange Officer with the German Air Force. After leaving the Royal Air Force, they worked as a Staff Officer Tornado GR4, responsible for tactical and training improvements, and later as a Flight Commander Operations, overseeing asset management and personnel leadership.

In 2005, Scott transitioned to the airline industry and worked as a First Officer at BMED. Scott then joined Thales in 2006 as the Chief Simulator Instructor, delivering operational and technical systems training for the RAF. At Thales, they were also responsible for standardization of instruction and creating bespoke training for RAF crews.

In 2013, Scott joined Aberdeen Drilling Consultants Ltd as an Integrated Control Systems Specialist, providing technical advice and training to the Oil and Gas sector. Scott operated alone or in small teams globally, both on and off-shore.

In 2014, they joined 4Sight as the Technical Director, a position they held until 2017. Finally, they joined SaxaVord Spaceport UK in 2017 and served as the Operations Director, before being promoted to the role of Deputy CEO and Operations Director in January 2021.

Scott Hammond attended Bristol Polytechnic from 1982 to 1985, where they earned a BSc in Valuation and Estate Management. Scott specialized in surveying technology and surveying. In 1996, they briefly studied German Language and Literature at the University of London. It is unclear whether they obtained a degree in this field.
