Hao Xia

Hao Xia has a diverse work experience spanning from 2006 to 2022. They started their career as a Research Intern at Microsoft Research Asia, where they focused on efficient and intelligent data gathering from web forums. They then joined Microsoft as a Software Development Engineer 2, working on SQL Azure and handling backend components responsible for maintaining data redundancy and high availability.

In 2013, Hao Xia joined Optimizely as a Staff Software Engineer, becoming a founding member and Tech Lead of the Machine Learning team. They played a crucial role in launching Optimizely Recommendations, Stats Accelerator, and Adaptive Audiences. Their responsibilities included data-driven automated optimization and NLP-based audience definition.

After leaving Optimizely in 2018, Hao Xia joined Megaspace as an Architect, where they worked on architectural design and implementation. In 2019, they joined Flexport as a Staff Software Engineer and later became an Engineering Manager, leading the Service Infra team and supporting the migration from a monolithic Ruby on Rails to a service-oriented architecture using Protobuf and gRPC.

From 2020 to 2022, Hao Xia worked at Soteris, Inc. as an Engineering Lead. In this role, they led the engineering team in various areas, including ML productionization, frontend app development, and cloud infrastructure. They adopted AWS SageMaker for data exploration, model training, and serverless inference, and developed custom Airflow operators for seamless integration.

Hao Xia's most recent work experience is at Shinami, where they are a Co-Founder starting from 2022.

Hao Xia pursued their undergraduate education at Tsinghua University from 2002 to 2006. During this period, they obtained a Bachelor of Engineering degree with a focus on Computer Software. Following their bachelor's degree, Hao Xia furthered their academic journey and attended McMaster University between 2006 and 2008. At McMaster, they pursued a Master of Science degree with a specialization in Computer Science.
