Jason A. Cook began their career in 2001 as a Staff Photographer at the Independence Examiner. In 2003, they moved to the Iowa City Press-Citizen as a Photo Editor, where they were responsible for overseeing the photography department, organizing and assigning photographers to cover assignments, and covering an occasional assignment. In 2006, they joined the St. Paul Pioneer Press as Director of Photography, managing the main visual elements of a daily newspaper with 200,000 subscribers and its web presence that generated 11 million page views a month. Jason A. also led a staff of award-winning photojournalists, videographers, and technicians, and worked with reporters and fellow editors to assign photographs. In 2013, Cook became the CEO of Shinebox, and also held the roles of Executive Producer, Senior Producer, and Project Manager. As Senior Producer, they were responsible for video and photography production and direction, project management, and visual curation, purveying, and strategizing. Jason A. was also a photographer.
Jason A. Cook attended the Missouri School of Journalism, University of Missouri-Columbia from 1996 to 2001, where they earned a degree in Journalism with a field of study in Political Science and Philosophy.
