Hong Wu

Hong Wu is a seasoned technology leader with extensive experience in software engineering and machine learning. Currently serving as Principal Engineer at Shopify since March 2024, Hong previously held the position of Head of Software Engineering, ML Engineering and Research at Mineral.ai from January 2023 to March 2024, where work focused on applying ML/AI technologies in agriculture. Prior to that, Hong contributed to X, the moonshot factory, as Principal Engineer/Director from May 2020 to January 2023. A significant tenure at Google from November 2011 to April 2020 included roles as Senior Engineering Manager, overseeing diverse projects within Google Shopping's order management system and GMail backend engineering. Hong's early career includes an architect role at Extreme DA, which was acquired by Synopsys, focusing on timing analysis tools. Hong holds a Master’s and PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and a Bachelor's in Mathematics from Nanjing University.
