Laura Simpson's work experience began in 2007 when they worked at Music Nova Scotia as the Communications and Membership Coordinator. Laura later became the Funding Programs Officer, managing various programs and funding artists and music industry professionals. In 2011, Laura founded and became the curator of The Syrup Factory, where they provided artist consultation and strategy, as well as event promotion featuring high-quality artists. Additionally, they worked as a Freelance Writer for OpenFile from 2011 to 2012.
In 2014, Laura took on the role of Assistant Producer at the Halifax Jazz Festival, where they coordinated production, stage management, logistics, and communications. Laura also provided general support to the Artistic Director and Technical Producer. Laura later became the Conference Manager at CAPACOA from 2014 to 2015.
In 2015, Laura worked as a Business Consultant at Black Box - A Music Company and as a Representative at Rocking Horse Road. Laura then joined the East Coast Music Association as the TD Soundwaves Coordinator and TD Client Liaison, responsible for implementing various programs and serving as the primary liaison with TD.
In 2016, Laura founded and became the Director of Make.Do.Camp., where they oversaw the camp's operations. Laura also worked at the Halifax Jazz Festival as the Assistant Producer and held the role of TD Soundwaves Coordinator and TD Client Liaison at the East Coast Music Association.
Laura's most recent work experience is as the CEO and Founder of Side Door, starting in April 2017.
Laura Simpson completed their Bachelor of Journalism in Broadcast, Print, and Online Media from the University of King's College in 2004. Prior to that, they obtained their Honours Arts degree with a focus on History and Philosophy from Queen's University between 1997 and 2001.
