Ilkka Huopaniemi has extensive experience in data science and machine learning. Ilkka currently holds the position of Head of Data Science at Siili Solutions, where they have been working since 2016. In this role, they have undertaken various machine learning and data science projects in industries such as computer software, pensions, and gaming. Ilkka has worked on customer data analytics, natural language processing, predictive time-series modeling, deep learning, digital marketing, contextual bandits, recommender engines, and A/B testing. Additionally, they are involved in sales and recruiting and has completed a specialization in deep learning and robotics for autonomous driving.
Before joining Siili Solutions, Ilkka worked as a Senior Machine Learning Scientist at LifeGlimmer GmbH from 2014 to 2016. Here, they developed statistical analysis approaches for integrating heterogeneous data from multiple sources, including electronic medical records and next-generation sequencing data. Their tasks included predictive models using natural language processing, network analysis, multivariate modeling, experimental design, and meta-analysis.
Prior to that, they worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow (Machine Learning) at the Charles Bronfman Institute for Personalized Medicine, Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai from 2011 to 2014. In this role, their focus was on developing machine learning methods to integrate different types of data obtained from electronic medical records.
Ilkka started their career as a Doctoral Student at Aalto University School of Science in 2004, where they worked on developing machine learning methods for integrating data from multiple heterogeneous biomedical sources. Ilkka also served as a Research Assistant, conducting statistical physics simulations using Monte Carlo methods.
Throughout their career, Ilkka has published a total of 10 research papers.
Ilkka Huopaniemi earned a Bachelor of Science in Physics from Aalto University School of Science in 2006. Ilkka then pursued further education and received a Doctor of Science degree in Machine Learning from the same institution in 2012. In 2017 and 2018, Ilkka completed a self-driving car engineer nanodegree program at Udacity, focusing on machine learning, computer vision, deep learning, and robotics.
