Benjamin Alsbury-Nealy

Benjamin Alsbury-Nealy has a diverse work experience in various fields. Benjamin is currently the Co-Founder and CEO of SilicoLabs, a company that creates tools for scientists to leverage virtual reality, augmented reality, and artificial intelligence in interdisciplinary research. Benjamin is also a Doctoral Researcher on leave at the Rotman Research Institute at Baycrest, where they focus on understanding cognitive mechanisms related to learning and memory formation using advanced research techniques such as virtual reality and mobile EEG.

Prior to their current roles, Benjamin worked as a PhD Candidate in Cognitive Neuroscience at the University of Toronto, where they conducted research on cognitive mechanisms involved in learning and memory formation. Benjamin also created and led the development of OpenMaze, an open-source platform that helps researchers design experiments using the Unity game development engine.

Before venturing into research and technology, Benjamin worked as an Educator at Bluecoats, where they developed and implemented an educational program for students aged 18-21 and coordinated with instructional and administrative staff. Benjamin also worked as a Senior Financial Analyst and Financial Analyst at Meridian Credit Union, and as an Owner/Operator at Pareto Renovations, providing clients with alternative approaches to general contracting for renovation projects.

In addition, Benjamin worked as an Educator at the Boston Crusaders, where they contributed to the educational program. Overall, Benjamin has a strong background in research, technology, education, and finance.

Benjamin Alsbury-Nealy began their educational journey in 2011 at the University of Toronto, where they completed an Honours Bachelor of Science degree in Economics, Psychology, and Mathematics. After this, they pursued further studies and obtained a Level 1 certification from the CFA Institute in Financial Analysis in 2015-2016.

In 2017-2018, Benjamin returned to the University of Toronto to pursue a Master's degree in Cognitive Neuroscience. Following this, they continued their academic pursuits and obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Psychology with a specialization in Cognitive Neuroscience from the University of Toronto between 2018 and 2022.

Throughout their educational journey, Benjamin also obtained several certifications to enhance their knowledge and skills. In May 2013, they passed the CFA Level I examination. In August 2019, they completed the CIFAR Deep Learning and Reinforcement Learning Summer School, and also obtained certifications in "Sample-based Learning Methods" and "Fundamentals of Reinforcement Learning" from Coursera in October and August 2019, respectively.
