Joseph Peterson has a diverse work experience spanning various fields. Joseph co-founded SimBioSys, Inc. in 2017, a biotechnology company focused on developing computational tools for biomedical research. Prior to that, they worked as a graduate student in the Luthey-Schulten Laboratory at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign from 2012 to 2017, where they developed metabolic and genetic models of methane-producing microbes. Joseph also conducted research as a research assistant at the University of Utah from 2008 to 2012, focusing on highly energetic solid materials. Before entering the field of science, Joseph worked as a novice mason for Fretz Construction Inc from 2006 to 2008.
Joseph Peterson pursued their education starting with a Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry from the University of Utah, which they obtained from 2007 to 2012. Concurrently, from 2007 to 2013, Joseph also completed a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science from the same institution. Joseph further expanded their academic journey by earning a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Physical Chemistry from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, which they accomplished from 2012 to 2017. In addition to their formal education, Joseph Peterson obtained a certification in "Getting Started with Deep Learning" from NVIDIA in April 2021.
