Elizabeth Connolly joined Sinai Health System in December of 2019 as General Counsel. Liz brings extensive legal and healthcare knowledge to the organization. Liz began her legal career as a trial lawyer, defending hospitals, physicians, and nurses in professional liability cases. After eight years as a litigator, she embarked upon her in‐house career at Northwest Community Hospital, where she launched a new offshore captive insurance and risk management program. Liz also implemented a new litigation management process which included professional liability, breach of contract, and employment liability matters, generating savings of $1.9 million within the first two years. She pioneered a new model of handling patient complaints, incorporating components of data analytics, disclosure, and risk, and has presented this model to the American Academy of Pediatrics and the IMAC Cayman Captive Forum.
Liz subsequently transitioned to Little Company of Mary Hospital, where she designed a new contract management process and Stark compliance plan. She oversaw all of the legal transactions for the organization, handling a wide array of complex agreements, including contracts for large physician groups, software licensing agreements, telehealth, and leasing arrangements. Her other interests include peer review, HIPAA compliance, and employment liability.
Liz has earned certifications in healthcare compliance and is an Associate of Risk Management. She is also a registered nurse. Liz has spoken at several conferences on medical‐legal issues. She is active with the Illinois Association of Health Law Attorneys and participates in its mentoring program.
