David Velarde

David Velarde is an experienced educator and leader in the field of English language instruction. Currently serving as Head of Department for English at SIS Group of Schools since July 2020, David is an active member of the academic leadership team, overseeing a group of eight teachers and ensuring curriculum alignment. Additionally, David has been an IB Examiner for Theory of Knowledge since December 2018, marking over 500 essays. Past teaching roles include secondary positions at Tunas Muda School, Sekolah Mutiara Nusantara, and Global Sevilla, where David specialized in IBDP courses and Cambridge IGCSE. David's earlier career includes engineering positions at NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Rain Bird, and Biosense Webster, where technical skills were developed before transitioning into education. David holds a PGCE from the University of Nottingham and a BS in Plastic Engineering Technology from Penn State University.
