Evan Grothjan is a Senior Researcher and 3D Analyst at SITU, where responsibilities include conducting visual investigations into human rights abuses for law, advocacy, and journalism since February 2023. Prior to this role, Grothjan served as a Visual Journalist at The New York Times from November 2020 to October 2022, focusing on spatial journalism. During a previous tenure at The New York Times from September 2015 to January 2020, Grothjan held the position of Graphics/Multimedia Editor, producing award-winning spatial journalism and engaging with augmented reality, virtual reality, and interactive content. Additionally, Grothjan participated in a Graphics Fellowship, researching emerging technologies for virtual reality filmmaking across five continents. Earlier experience includes serving as a Cameraman and Research Assistant for Marian Marzynski on a PBS-funded project, and as an Assistant Editor for the Polish version of a PBS Frontline Documentary. Grothjan holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Film/Animation/Video from the Rhode Island School of Design.
