Josep Brugada is a highly experienced medical professional with a diverse range of roles and responsibilities. Josep began their career in 1997 as a Professor of the Department of Medicine at the Universitat de Barcelona. In 1998, they became the Chief of the Arrhythmia Section at Clínica Pilar Sant Jordi, and in 1997, they took on the role of Chief of the Pediatric Arrhythmia Section at Hospital Sant Joan de Déu.
In 2008, Brugada became the Medical Director at Hospital Clinic Barcelona, a position they held until 2014. Additionally, from 2009 to 2011, they served as the Deputy Editor for the European Heart Journal.
Brugada's extensive experience also includes roles at Hospital Clínic de Barcelona, where they were the Head of the Cardiology Service from 2007-2009, and the Chairman of the Thorax Institute from 2006-2008.
Josep has also held leadership positions in professional organizations, serving as the President of the European Heart Rhythm Association from 2007-2009.
Josep Brugada has a Bachelor's degree in Medicine and Surgery from Universitat de Barcelona, which they obtained between 1978 and 1982. Josep then pursued a Master's degree in Integrated Health Services Management at Esade in 2004 and 2005. In 1986 and 1987, they attended Universitat de Barcelona to earn a Doctorate in Medicine and Surgery. Furthermore, they also specialized in Cardiology and Biology and Sports Medicine at Universidad de Montpellier in 1987 and 1988, respectively.
