Thiago Melo has extensive experience in the field of laser technology. Thiago began their career at UC Santa Barbara as a Ph.D. student and researcher, where they worked from September 2007 to August 2012. Afterward, they joined KYOCERA SLD Laser, where they held various roles. From September 2012 to June 2019, they served as a Sr. Device Scientist, contributing to the development of high-efficiency GaN-based Laser Diodes. Subsequently, they transitioned to a member of the technical staff as a research scientist from June 2019 until the present. Most recently, Thiago assumed the position of Manager, R&D Test Engineering in October 2022. Their expertise lies in modeling, simulation, and experimental characterization of laser diodes and test structures.
Thiago Melo's education history begins with their enrollment at USP - Universidade de São Paulo in 2001, where they pursued coursework in Electrical and Electronics Engineering. Thiago completed their studies at USP in 2003. Following this, Thiago attended École Polytechnique from 2003 to 2007, obtaining their Diplôme d'Ingénieur with a focus on Applied Physics/Math - Micro-Nano-Opto-Electronics. Subsequently, they pursued a Master's degree at Pierre and Marie Curie University in 2006 and 2007, specializing in Materials Science and Technology. Finally, Thiago earned their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) from UC Santa Barbara in the field of Materials Science, completing their doctoral studies from 2007 to 2012.
