Emily Arbour

Senior Research Manager at Smarty Pants

In early 2021, Emily joined Smarty Pants as an Insights Know-It-All with a passion for digging beneath surface-level insights. She is the combination of both curious research professional and seasoned marketer who is driven by a desire to examine areas often overlooked and to deliver actionable business implications. She now applies those gifts to her work with Smarty Pants’ key retail and CPG clients.

Emily has rich experience across quantitative and qualitative research methods – from segmentation and sensory testing to creative development and consumer journeys. And, her time spent on both the agency and corporate sides of business makes her acutely attuned to the challenges and best practices of growing successful brands.

Prior to Smarty Pants, Emily led extensive research in the areas of brand strategy and product innovation. She spent more than seven years as Associate Director of Brand Strategy & Insights at Community Coffee Company, where she managed the innovation program to ensure continued growth and consumer-focused product evolution.

For the two years prior, Emily served as a strategic planner on the Decision Sciences team at The Martin Agency in Richmond, Virginia, where she delivered in-depth insights and recommendations on consumer targeting, social listening and database segmentation for numerous clients and categories. She began her marketing career as an intern at Brooklyn-based Big Spaceship, followed by a two-year stint in account management at Peter Mayer Advertising in New Orleans.

Emily holds both a Bachelor of Science in Business Marketing and a Master of Mass Communication with a focus on advertising research from Louisiana State University. As an undergraduate, she was named the LSU Student Employee of the Year (from over 5,000 employees!) for her leadership with the University Recreation Dept. While obtaining her master’s degree, she was awarded a full-tuition graduate assistantship to manage consumer research, eye tracking and gaming studies at the on-campus Media Lab. She’s quite the hard-working smarty pants.
