Joyce Polhamus

Joyce is the director of their San Francisco office, where she focuses on the development and retention of staff and market diversification while continuing to reinforce SmithGroup’s reputation for design excellence. As the former leader of the office's Health Studio, she directed the planning and design process for a wide range of health facilities. She is recognized among peers for her commitment to enhancing the quality of life, elevating the design aesthetic, and providing cost-effective design for aging. Joyce is well-versed in-laws and regulations impacting design and is involved with a number of organizations addressing senior care environments. It's wonderful to see how healthcare design has become recognized for the importance it plays in the health and healing process. The patient experience is where it's at now. Someday, Joyce hopes to start a non-profit companion dog service for seniors who want to care for a pet.
