Chamath Palihapitiya

Chamath Palihapitiya is the founder of Social Capital, a role held since July 2011. Previously, Chamath served as Vice President of User Growth, Mobile & International at Facebook from 2007 to June 2011, where responsibilities included enhancing global adoption and overseeing mobile initiatives. Earlier experience includes being the original executive in charge of Facebook Platform and its monetization efforts. Prior to Facebook, Chamath was an Investor at Mayfield Fund and held several key positions at AOL, including Vice President and General Manager of AIM and ICQ. Chamath's early career featured roles at Winamp & Spinner.com and BMO Nesbitt Burns, where expertise in product development and interest rate derivatives was established. Academically, Chamath holds a B.A.Sc. in Electrical Engineering with First Class Honours from the University of Waterloo.
