Jim Curtin

Jim Curtin is a Principal and part of the firm’s Campus Environments leadership team. A nationally recognized expert in the planning and design of higher education facilities, Jim believes in creating buildings that offer users opportunities for dynamic engagement within a structured environment. His designs foster a sense of community, promote connection and interaction, and are responsive to evolving trends that enhance student success. In his 30+ year career, Jim has worked on campuses across the country, designing spaces and places that are unique, sustainable, and responsive to their environment.

Jim is a frequent presenter at national education conferences and contributes regularly to industry publications. He has received numerous awards and recognitions for his work including recognitions from the national SCUP/AIA-CAE and AIA Chicago, as well as an American Architecture Award for Tooker House at Arizona State University; a citation of merit in the AIA Chicago Design Excellence Awards and three Student Housing Business Innovator Awards for the Academic and Residential Complex at the University of Illinois, Chicago; a SCUP/AIA-CAE Honor Award for Excellence in Architecture for Restoration or Preservation for Manzanita Hall at Arizona State University; and the Urban Land Institute (ULI) Philadelphia Award for Excellence for The Summit at University City at Drexel University, to name a few.

Jim is as a founding member of ACUHO-I’s 21st Century Project, a national effort to envision the future of student housing. He is a member of the American Institute of Architects, the Society for Campus and University Planning (SCUP), and serves on the Board of Regents and Executive Board for Mercy Home for Boys & Girls. Jim received his Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Notre Dame.
