With over 20 years of experience, Michael is a Studio Leader and senior designer in SCB’s Campus Environments practice group. His projects range from highly complex science buildings and laboratories to award-winning student life facilities. Michael believes that campus architecture should both respond to and reflect an institution’s unique character and culture while still being mindful of its role in students’ daily learning experiences. His designs incorporate social needs, technological demands, and intellectual aspirations in a manner that is seamless and engaging.
Michael leads the design process of a project from inception through construction, ensuring the integrity of the creative process and the quality of the completed design. His recent projects include the award-winning Tooker House at Arizona State University, the Nest at Northeastern Illinois University, Wilkerson Commons at the University of North Dakota, and Center for Translational Research Education (CTRE) at Loyola University Chicago.
Michael is a member of SCB’s Campus Environments Research and Development Group. He has been a guest critic and lecturer at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and the University of Illinois at Chicago. He has also exhibited at the Graham Foundation Chicago and the Chicago Architectural Club.
Michael holds a Master of Architecture and a Bachelor of Science in Architectural Studies from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He is a LEED Accredited Professional and a member of the AIA Illinois chapter.
