Shuai Qian has a diverse work experience in the fields of scientific research and academia. Shuai began their career in 2010 with a summer internship at PetroChina. In 2011, they served as a Research Assistant at Dalian University of Technology.
Qian then joined the University of Houston in 2012, where they worked as a Research Assistant and Teaching Assistant until 2016. In their role as a Research Assistant, they focused on various projects such as engineering transcriptional regulator proteins, optimizing synthetic pathways, and studying structure-function relationships.
From 2016 to 2018, Qian worked as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at Rice University. During this time, they conducted research on isoprenoid biosynthesis, metabolic engineering, and designing microbial platforms for biosynthesizing aromatic compounds.
In 2018, Qian joined Baylor College of Medicine as a Postdoctoral Research Associate, where they continued their research until 2019.
Currently, Qian is employed at Solugen, where they initially held the position of Senior Scientist from 2019 to 2022. Shuai has now been promoted to the role of Principal Scientist in July 2022, and is currently serving in this position.
Overall, Shuai Qian has gained significant expertise in scientific research, metabolic engineering, biosynthesis, and enzyme engineering through their various roles in academic and industrial settings.
Shuai Qian pursued their Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Chemical Engineering from the Dalian University of Technology between 2007 and 2011. After completing their undergraduate studies, they enrolled at the University of Houston, where they obtained their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Metabolic Engineering & Protein Engineering from 2011 to 2016.
