James Brundege

Principal Software Engineer at SomaLogic

James Brundege has a diverse work experience in the software engineering field. James started their career as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Bioinformatics at Oregon Health & Science University, where they founded an open-source project and designed an object model for user queries. James then worked as a Senior Systems Analyst, where they developed software for data exchange and created ETL processes.

After that, James worked as an Independent Contractor and Consulting Software Engineer, designing and implementing various internal and commercial software products for different clients. One notable project included designing the core backend data storage system for Proteome Software's proteomics data analysis product.

Later on, they joined Coverity as a Software Engineer, where they developed a static analysis product and introduced Maven into the tech stack. James then moved to Rally Software Development as a Software Engineer and Technical Lead, where they introduced Apache Cassandra for managing user session data and optimized backend processes based on production data analysis.

Currently, James is working at SomaLogic, initially as a Senior Software Engineer and later as a Principal Software Engineer. At SomaLogic, they have been responsible for designing and implementing various aspects of SomaLogic's proteomic data pipeline, including software development and building the production data analysis and reporting system.

James Brundege earned a Ph.D. in Pharmacology (Neuroscience) from the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus between 1992 and 1997. James then pursued a Master's degree in Computer Science at Oregon Health & Science University from 2002 to 2004. Prior to that, they obtained a Bachelor's degree in Biology from Virginia Tech from 1987 to 1991. Additionally, they have obtained certifications including Certified ScrumMaster from Scrum Alliance in 2010, Sun Certified Enterprise Architect from Sun Microsystems in 2005, Sun Certified Java Developer from Sun Microsystems in 2002, and Sun Certified Java Programmer from Sun Microsystems in 2001.
