Matthew Buchanan

Matthew Buchanan has extensive work experience in the education field. Matthew is currently the Executive Principal at Somerville Public Schools. Prior to this, they worked at Providence School Department as a Principal and Vice Principal. Matthew also served as a Physical Education Teacher at UCAP (Urban Collaborative Accelerated Program) and as a Co-Facilitator of TLA (Townie Leadership Academy) at East Providence High School. Additionally, they worked as a Sr. Youth Director at YMCA of Greater Providence, First Star URI Director at Adoption RI, and Guidance Counselor at Segue Institute for Learning. Earlier in their career, they served as an Advisor at The Met School in Providence, RI.

Matthew Buchanan earned a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Human Development and Family Studies from the University of Rhode Island from 1994 to 1998. Matthew then pursued a Masters of Education in Educational Leadership and Administration, General at Rhode Island College from 2008 to 2011. In addition, Matthew obtained the RI Building Level Administrator PK-12 certification from the Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE) in September 2014.
