Ian Schmutzler

Ian Schmutzler serves as the Chief of Police for the City of Vacaville, California, since January 2000, advancing through various ranks including Captain, Acting Chief, and Lieutenant, where responsibilities included overseeing multiple divisions such as Field Operations and Crime Prevention. Additionally, Ian holds leadership roles as the Board Chair of the Solano County Law Enforcement Executive Association and as an Associate Professor of Administration of Criminal Justice at Union Institute & University, while also teaching at Napa Valley College. Ian's earlier career included a position as a Police Officer with the Oakland Police Department. Academic qualifications include a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice and a Master of Science in Criminal Justice/Law Enforcement Administration from California State University-Sacramento, alongside a Professional Certificate in Law Enforcement Command from the University of San Diego.
