His appointment followed more than two decades in music publishing, including spending 17 years at EMI Music Publishing where he signed numerous songwriters at the outset of their careers, including Kanye West, Usher, Drake and Snoop Dogg. All of them remain with EMI, which since 2012 has been administered by Sony/ATV and in 2018 became a solely-owned Sony company.
He joined Warner/Chappell in 2012, initially as President of Creative North America, and was appointed Chairman and CEO in 2015. At the company he attracted a wide range of new and established creative talent, while building a dynamic senior management team around the world. Under his leadership, Warner/Chappell broke records in Billboard’s quarterly market shares and the company was regularly named Publisher of the Year at the various BMI and ASCAP annual award ceremonies.
Platt has served as Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors for the MusiCares Foundation and sits on the boards of the Songwriters’ Hall of Fame, the Motown Museum and the Living Legends Foundation. In 2005, he launched the Big Jon Platt Scholarship Program, annually awarding three high school students from his hometown with college scholarships.
Among his accolades and honors, he was named Man of the Year by BRE Magazine, received the Visionary Award at the SESAC Pop Music Awards and was recognized as the Music Visionary of the Year by the UJA-Federation of New York. In 2017, he was presented with Morehouse College’s Candle Award in Music, Business and Entertainment, while the following year was honored with the prestigious Spirit of Life award at the annual fundraising Gala for LA’s City of Hope hospital.
