MAJOR DUTIES - GENERAL
● Provide exceptional customer service by anticipating client’s needs.
● Perform opening and closing procedures as outlined on morning and evening checklists for
various areas of the hospital.
● Enter individual charges into practice software as they are being performed (Treatments, MRI,
x-ray, surgery, etc.).
● Preparing patient samples for both in-house and outside lab testing.
● Knowledgeable regarding related federal and state animal health laws and regulations including
OSHA.
● Provide input on co-workers for annual 360 performance evaluations. Participate in staff lecture
series.
● Help maintain overall cleanliness
● Perform proper animal restraining techniques for examinations, treatments and procedures.
● Attend and participate in rounds at the beginning of shift and as needed throughout the day.
● Attend and participate in all company meetings as needed.
MAJOR DUTIES - IMAGING, ANESTHESIA & SURGERY
Imaging
● Assist during MRI procedures including patient prep, anesthetic monitoring and recovery.
● General understanding and working knowledge of how conventional x-ray, and MRI works.
● Proper patient positioning for MRI.
● Ability to provide high quality diagnostic advanced imaging patient studies.
● Understanding and maintaining a safe environment for both patient and team members during
x-ray, and MRI studies.
● Maintain imaging patient log books.
● Establishing and maintaining an MRI safety and training program, including emergency drills.
● Provide diagnostic imaging and anesthesia safety training for all new hires and for all current staff
annually.
● Ability to prepare and submit patient imaging studies for review to outside services.
● Manage the surgical and imaging department flow, consistently reviewing procedures for: patient
admission, patient records, client communication, entering charges, pre, peri and post-anesthesia
protocols.

Anesthesia/Surgery
● Requires exceptional knowledge of veterinary patient management and anesthesia protocols
including medical math and anesthetic patient safety.
● Understand aseptic principles and apply them to surgical patients, instruments, equipment, and
rooms.
● Knowledgeable regarding the names of surgical instruments, what their purpose is, where they are
stored, and proper cleaning and sterilization techniques.
● Prepare the surgical suite for incoming patients as needed. Prepare patients for surgery taking into
account the patient and the surgery being performed to appropriately clip surgical fields, scrub
and prep, maintain fields during transport and apply proper positioning.
● Prepare surgical patients for imaging and surgery including creating an anesthetic record and
protocol, imaging and surgical suite set up, performing patient induction and maintenance of
anesthesia.
● Knowledge of calculating and monitoring CRI’s utilized for patients undergoing surgical
procedures.
● Assist surgeons with aseptic gowning and gloving. Ability to properly scrub and aseptically gown
and glove when called to “scrub-in”. Anticipate surgeons’ needs for assistance, instruments,
monitoring, and treatments.
● Be sufficiently familiar with the anesthetic machines to be able to operate, maintain, and
troubleshoot as needed. Routinely check soda lime; change and log as needed. Ensure anesthetic
scavenging is functional.
● Monitor medical gasses and order as needed.
● General anesthetic monitoring including:
○ Anesthetic depth
○ Heart rate
○ Respiratory rate
○ ETCo2
○ Temperature
○ Pulse ox
○ ECG
○ Body Temp
● Monitor patient recovery.
● Protect patients from aspiration and hypothermia.
Job Description – Veterinary Technician: Lead Imaging and Anesthesia Veterinary Technician

● Maintain controlled substance logs and oversee controlled substance inventory within the surgical
and diagnostic imaging department.
● Clean surgical instruments, prepare surgical packs, operate and maintain the autoclave.
● Regularly perform inventory counts and stock areas as needed and directed by the Nursing
Supervisor or Practice Manager.
● Available for rotating on-call and holiday shifts.
● Create and continuously update training protocols for new hires including training videos on
SEVN specific procedures.
● Maintenance of imaging and surgery equipment including: MRI, surgical instruments, suites, and
specialized equipment (anesthetic machines, operating microscope, etc.)
MAJOR DUTIES - LEADERSHIP
As the imaging and surgery lead you are expected to be responsible and maintain the following:
● Lead and direct the imaging and anesthesia team in a productive and efficient work environment
in a positive manner. Oversee the daily operation of the surgical and diagnostic imaging
department and delegate duties to each employee to ensure daily tasks are accomplished.
● Make decisions quickly to coordinate the team in an encouraging and efficient manner to address
the needs of the doctors, support staff, clients and patients.
● Carry yourself with respect and to be respectful to others when delegating tasks.
● Earn the respect and trust of the team by exercising servant leadership.
● Be self aware and accountable for your team’s performance and actions.
● Monitor and maintain the imaging and anesthesia team schedule and make changes based on
hospital needs. Make adjustments to clinical team coverage in the event of call outs, PTO
requests, etc.
● Assure appropriate staffing of the imaging and anesthesia department in the event of call outs
● Attend regularly scheduled staff meetings and address any topics that pertain to the Imaging and
Anesthesia Department.
● Conduct monthly departmental meetings as deemed appropriate and necessary. Follow up with
staff to ensure new protocols are followed and staff are completing designated tasks.
● Meet with the Nursing Supervisor and Practice Manager as needed to discuss status, needs, and
progress of the imaging and surgery department.
● Perform bi-weekly check-ins with each member of the imaging and anesthesia team
● Be available to help in all areas of the hospital where there is need.
● Take initiative to improve your leadership capabilities through coaching and continuing education
in leadership and encourage team members to do the same.
● Address and report any department issues to ensure resolution in a manner consistent with
Southeast Veterinary Neurology’s CORE Values is achieved in a timely manner.
● Assist in the onboarding and training of any new imaging and anesthesia veterinary technicians.
● Developing new training protocols for onboarding new team members. Create new training
protocols and checklists specific to imaging and anesthesia team members.
● Provide one-on-one coaching to peers and provide constructive criticism as needed.
● Continuous training provided to department team members on new or updated policies and
procedures. Review existing protocols and provide mock training to ensure retention of them.
● Complete projects within a timely manner as directed by the Nursing Supervisor.
● Maintain a positive work environment and promote the SEVN Core Values.
● Assist Nursing Supervisor with clinical team member performance reviews.
● Assist the Nursing Supervisor with the hiring and on-boarding of new hires. Performing phone
screens and interviews, overseeing working interviews and calling candidate references.
● Report to the Nursing Supervisor. Have open communication and schedule meetings weekly to
discuss and resolve issues together.
● Engage in any and all leadership coaching CE provided by SEVN.
