• Properly administering medications, taking scheduled TPRs on each hospitalized patient as dictated by doctor orders. Observe and communicate progress of each patient to the doctor during rounds and evaluations. Communicate lab results for hospitalized and out patients to veterinarians during rounds.

• Prepare daily treatment sheets for patients being admitted to SEVN and daily treatment sheets for hospitalized patients. Preparing prescription labels and medications for outpatients.

• Communicate effectively with clients as needed for recalls, lab work, patient updates, etc.

• Provide exceptional customer service by anticipating client’s needs.

• Proper opening and closing protocols as outlined on morning and evening checklists for this position.

• Cleaning, walking, feeding hospitalized animals as needed.

• Administering medications (oral, injectable, rectal) to hospitalized patients as needed.

• Enter each treatment and charge into DVMAX as they are being performed. Audit digital medical records for accuracy throughout the shift.

• Ensure all animals are clearly labeled and all treatment information is properly logged on treatment forms and entered into medical records. Ensure the white-board is up to date with patient information.

• Help maintain overall cleanliness:

o Trash is collected

o Restocking

o Dusting counter space and laboratory machines

o Sweep, vacuum, and mop floors as needed

o Cleaning cages as they become available

o Perform proper animal restraining techniques for examinations, treatments and procedures.

• Assist with treatment room procedures including:

o Monitoring CRIs

o Calculating drug doses

o Performing bladder expressions

o Writing treatment sheets (with doctor approval)

o Placing, monitoring, and maintaining urinary catheters

o General restraint on small animals as needed for treatments, catheter placements, examinations, xray, etc.

• Strong understanding of formulas used to calculate dosages of medication (both oral and injectable).

• Ability to properly run in house lab work, prepare labs to be sent to outside laboratories.

• Strong understanding of surgical procedures and protocols in the event of an overnight

emergency.

• Able to work independently without the direct supervision of the Lead Technician and primary

neurologist. Ability to recognize patient needs, status, and emergencies.

• Ability to lift 50 pounds.

• Knowledgeable regarding related federal and state animal health laws and regulations including

OSHA.

• Attend and participate in rounds at the beginning of shift. Attend and participate in bi-weekly

departmental meetings.

Complete projects within a timely manner as directed by the Head Veterinary Technician.

• Assist in the training of newly hired Veterinary Technicians, Veterinary Technician Assistants

and Volunteers.

• Assistance with euthanasia and after-care.

• Regularly perform inventory counts and stock areas as needed and directed by the Head Technician.

• Provide input on co-workers for annual 360 performance evaluations. Participate in staff lecture

series. Contribute information obtained from CE events at bi-weekly technician meetings.

• Participate in community events that take place throughout the year, assisting with set-up and

break-down, educating potential clients about our hospital and services.

• Participate in holiday sign up shifts.

• Have a strong understanding of veterinary neurology including the credentials of our

neurologists, the neurological exam, diagnostic tools, surgical procedures and post-op recovery.
