Dan Skopec is vice president, regulatory affairs for Southern California Gas Company (SoCalGas) and San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E), Sempra Energy’s regulated California utilities. He oversees all regulatory affairs and is the utilities’ primary representative before the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC).
Skopec has extensive experience in environmental and energy policy. Prior to joining Sempra Energy in 2008, he served as undersecretary of the California Environmental Protection Agency (CalEPA). As former deputy cabinet secretary for Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, he served as a liaison between the governor's office and the California Department of Food and Agriculture, California Natural Resources Agency, CalEPA and CPUC, as well as the governor's Washington D.C. office.
Skopec formerly directed the House of Representatives’ Subcommittee on Energy Policy, Natural Resources and Regulatory Affairs. He also previously served as the legislative director for Congressman Doug Ose, for whom he oversaw legislative strategy, and worked as a legislative assistant for Congressman Jack Quinn.
He serves on the board of directors of the California Foundation on the Environment and the Economy. Skopec holds a master's degree in international economics from George Washington University and a bachelor's degree in political science and history from the University of California, San Diego.
