Enrique Varela

Enrique Varela currently serves as the Chief Legal and Compliance Officer and General Counsel at Southwest Key Programs, where responsibilities include overseeing legal and compliance departments and advising the board of directors and management on compliance and legal matters. Previously, Varela held the position of Deputy General Counsel/Deputy Division Chief in the General Counsel Division of the Texas Attorney General's Office for nearly a decade, providing legal counsel, managing compliance, and leading personnel investigations. Varela's earlier experience includes serving as Team Lead/Senior Assistant Attorney General in the General Litigation Division, representing Texas agencies in civil rights defense cases, and as Associate Counsel at Texas Health and Human Services, focusing on complex Medicaid matters. Varela's legal career began at the Texas Attorney General's Office in the Transportation Division, where representation included various civil litigation matters for the Texas Department of Transportation. Enrique Varela earned a Juris Doctor degree from South Texas College of Law Houston.
