Paul Cernek has a diverse work experience spanning from 2010 to 2018. In 2010, they were an English Language Instructor for Programa Inglés Abre Puertas del Ministerio de Educación de Chile. From 2012 to 2014, they worked as a Researcher and Software Developer for McGill University Department of Immunology, and as a Technical English Editor for Uni-edit. In 2015, they worked as a Software Development Engineer Intern for Microsoft, and as a Research Assistant for the University of British Columbia Department of Computer Science. In 2016, they worked as a Software Engineering Intern for Uber ATC. From 2018 to present, they have been a Software Engineering Manager and Lead Software Engineer for Spare Labs. In these roles, they have been responsible for hiring and onboarding software engineers, coaching them to reach their full potential, reviewing architecture design specifications, defining and promoting standards for quality and consistency across the codebase, leading development of the backend of an on-demand ride hailing system, leading product design and software development of Spare Realize, and investigating methods to distill control policies from multiple specialized experts into a single, more versatile agent.

Paul Cernek completed a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science from The University of British Columbia between 2014 and 2017. Paul then went on to pursue a Master of Science in Computer Science at The University of British Columbia, which they completed in 2019. Prior to that, they attended McGill University from 2008 to 2012, where they obtained a B.A.&Sc. in Molecular Biology and Political Science. In 2011, they also attended Charles University for Political Science.
