Chris Smith

Chris Smith currently serves as Vice President of Transportation at the Specialized Carriers & Rigging Association (SC&RA) since November 2020. Previously, Chris directed policy, communications, and legislative affairs at the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation from January 2016 to November 2020, where a key achievement included leading a statewide Amtrak marketing program. Chris also worked as Senior Program Manager for Freight at the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials from January 2008 to January 2016, supporting the development of national freight transportation policy and guiding multiple federal agencies. Earlier in Chris's career, as Vice President of Public Policy at the Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce from 2005 to 2008, legislative advocacy led to successful communication strategies on behalf of over 2,000 employers. Chris holds a Master of Public Administration and a Bachelor of Arts in International Affairs and History, both from Florida State University.
