Christian Zakian

Principal Photonics Engineer at Spiden

Christian Zakian has a diverse work experience in the field of medical imaging and research. Christian has worked as a Senior Systems Engineer at Spiden, where they led an R&D project focused on medical use cases related to spectroscopy and non-invasive continuous health monitoring. Christian also served as a Group Leader and Senior Research Scientist at HelmholtzZentrum München, where they were involved in developing multi-modal endoscopic imaging for early-stage esophageal cancer using optoacoustic and optical coherence tomography.

In addition, Christian has worked as a Medical Imaging Research Consultant, specializing in the development of optical coherence tomography for dental applications. Christian has also served as an Associate Trainer at Birmingham Optical - The Optical Company, training clinical staff on the use and interpretation of advanced ophthalmic imaging devices.

Furthermore, Christian has extensive experience in the high-tech medical device industry as the Head of R&D and Internal Consultant at Kevork. Christian was responsible for strategic business development and optimization of internal processes, as well as managing the regulatory team for registration of medical devices in Mexico.

Prior to this, Christian worked at the University of Manchester as a Research Fellow in Medical Physics, where they focused on developing a near-infrared spectral imaging system for tooth decay detection. Christian also served as a Research Assistant in Dental Physics, where they worked on instrument design and image processing algorithm development for various imaging methods in dentistry.

In summary, Christian Zakian has a strong background in medical imaging research, with expertise in spectroscopy, optoacoustic and optical coherence tomography, and dental imaging methods. Christian has experience in project management, research coordination, and training in the medical and ophthalmic fields.

Christian Zakian has a strong educational background with a focus on physics, inflammation cellular and vascular aspects, and electronic and communication engineering. Christian began their education in 1998 at Tecnológico de Monterrey, where they earned a Bachelor of Science (Hons) degree in Electronic and Communication Engineering in 2002. After completing their undergraduate studies, they pursued a PhD in Physics with a specialization in Medical Optics and Laser Physics at The University of Manchester from 2002 to 2006. Following their doctoral studies, Christian Zakian further expanded their knowledge by obtaining a Master's degree in inflammation cellular and vascular aspects at Queen Mary University of London in 2013.
