Michael Wiest has had a varied career in data science and related fields. In 2021, they began working as a Data Scientist for Spring Discovery. From 2019 to 2021, they worked as a Data Scientist for Trace Genomics, where they characterized soil properties using deep learning methods and derived novel microbiome-based measurements to improve field outcomes for growers. From 2018 to 2019, they worked as an AI Research Intern for Leidos, where they built deep learning tools to estimate wave breakages. From 2015 to 2018, they worked as a Data Engineer/Data Scientist for HotelTonight, where they grew the team from 2 to 6 people and built automation frameworks, ETL pipelines, inventory clusterers, and text classification tools. In 2015, they also worked as a Data Analysis and Flavor Prototyping for Impossible Foods Inc., where they used support vector machines to suggest potential business partners and constructed an in-house database of sensory data. From 2014 to 2015, they worked as a Bioinformatics Intern for Recombine.
Michael Wiest received their Bachelor's Degree in Chemical and Biological Engineering from Princeton University in 2015. Following that, they pursued a Master's degree in Biological Engineering from UC San Diego, which they are currently still enrolled in.
