Afzal Mawji

Afzal Mawji has a long and varied work experience. Afzal began their career in 1998 as a Web Programmer at Sony Music Canada. In 1999 they worked as a Software Engineer at both Sybase and Symantec. Afzal then moved to Financial Fusion as a Software Engineer in 2000, where they worked on a Pure Java application. In 2001 they became a Software Engineer at Cisco, where they developed a software simulator in System C and C++ to simulate the functionality of the packet forwarding ASIC on the next-generation OC-192 line card series. In 2002 they took on the role of Teaching Assistant and Research Assistant at the University of Waterloo, where they performed independent and collaborative research on scalable data processing using parallel systems. In 2004 they joined Queen's University as a Teaching Fellow and Research Assistant, where they performed independent and collaborative research into peer-to-peer and mobile ad hoc networks, resulting in numerous publications. Afzal then moved to SOTI Inc. in 2010 as a Software Architect. In 2012 they became President of Omni Online Enterprises, Inc. and in 2018 they took on the role of Chief Technology Officer at Springdel.

Afzal Mawji obtained a BASc in Computer Engineering from the University of Waterloo in 2002, followed by a MASc in Computer Engineering from the same university in 2004. Afzal then went on to complete their PhD in Computer Science from Queen's University in 2010.
