Derek Busby is an experienced professional in environmental management and project leadership, currently serving as Initiative Leader at the St. Johns River Water Management District since 2009, overseeing numerous water quality, natural systems, water supply, and flood protection projects. Previously, Derek held positions including Initiative Leader for the Middle and Lower St. Johns River Water Quality Program and Basin Program Manager, where responsibilities included managing the development and execution of water quality improvement initiatives. Prior experience includes serving as Vice President at Wildwood Consulting Inc. and Program Manager at PBSJ, focusing on environmental sciences and restoration projects for the US Army Corps of Engineers. Derek's career began as Executive Director of the Indian River Lagoon National Estuary Program, where leadership was demonstrated in creating a comprehensive federal management plan. Educational qualifications include a Master’s degree in Geography/Marine Policy/Oceanography from the University of Rhode Island and a Bachelor's degree in Biology/Marine Science from Jacksonville University.
