Gray believes in the transformative power of writing to express ideas, feelings, thoughts, and dreams in a language and style that reflects one's own personality. In her classes students explore their connections to this city, as well as other places and hometowns, and how that exploration can be an instigating force in writing. By finding how one react to and position ourselves in meaningful places, whether as a first timer in NYC or a long-time resident, students can seek out core truths that can make for an enjoyable and enlightening process of writing. Being a past writing center tutor brought Gray up close to the process of writing one-on-one and she carries that into her classes: working with students one-on-one and in conferences is important to the writing process. In classes students will seek to "keep it real" while also learning about different modes, formalities, and styles of writing.
