Giuseppe Guaiana has a diverse and extensive work experience in the field of psychiatry. Giuseppe currently serves as the Chief of Psychiatry at St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital since November 2012. Giuseppe also holds multiple roles at the University of Western Ontario, Canada, including Associate Professor of Psychiatry since July 2009 and Director of the Extended Campus Program since January 2018. Giuseppe Guaiana has a diverse education history. Giuseppe obtained their Diploma di Maturità Scientifica from Liceo Scientifico, a high school, in 1991. Giuseppe then pursued their medical degree, MD, at Università degli Studi di Milano from 1991 to 1998. Following that, they completed a PGDipl in Psychiatry at Università degli Studi del Piemonte Orientale from 1998 to 2002. Giuseppe furthered their studies in Affective Neuroscience and completed an MSc at Maastricht University from 2005 to 2007. Continuing their academic journey, they obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Psychiatric Epidemiology from Maastricht University from 2007 to 2012. Giuseppe also has certifications in Cognitive Therapy, specifically a Certificate of Attendance from Studi Cognitivi from 2006 to 2009, a Certificate of Completion from Beck Institute for Cognitive Behavior Therapy from 2010 to 2011, and Diplomate from Academy of Cognitive Therapy from 2012 onwards. More recently, they pursued a Postgraduate Diploma in Mental Health with a focus on Mental Health Policy and Services at Universidade Nova de Lisboa from 2019 to 2022. In addition to their academic background, Giuseppe Guaiana has obtained several certifications, including becoming a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in 2014 and obtaining specialty certification in Psychiatry by examination from the same institution in 2018. Giuseppe has also completed a Canadian Certified Physician Executive program from the Canadian Society of Physician Leaders in 2022 and a Master Psychopharmacology Program from the Neuroscience Education Institute in 2023.
